Visit the profile address
Type the platform’s address followed by the name. A profile means it is held. A not-found page means the account is missing, private routes aside.
Try it in settings
The reliable test is to attempt the name in your own account’s username field. The platform tells you whether it will accept it.
What unavailable can mean
- An active account holds it
- A deactivated account still holds it
- The name breaks the platform’s rules
- It is not yet released after a recent change
Signals of an inactive holder
- Old posts only
- No recent tags from others
- A bio with dead links
What to do next
An inactive-looking account is still held. Read which usernames can be claimed.
