Choosing a username for a law firm, clinic or practice

Short answer: Use the practice name as people say it, keep it the same on Instagram, TikTok and Snapchat, and register the accounts under a practice email that partners can reach. Professional rules in your field may also limit what the name can suggest, so check them before you settle on one.

Choosing the name

Ownership and access

  1. Register each account with a practice email, not a staff member's personal one.
  2. Give at least two partners access.
  3. Keep backup codes in the practice's own records.
  4. Remove access the day someone leaves. See username taken by a former employee.

If another practice has the name

Two practices can share a name in different places. A claim fits only if the account poses as you or uses your registered mark.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

Can a solicitor or doctor use their own name?

Yes, if it is free. If someone with the same name holds it, see someone with the same name has my username.

Do we need a trademark?

Not to register a free name. It matters if you later need to claim a taken one.

Can Usernm help with a taken practice name?

Only if a route fits. Ask first, it costs nothing.

Want it handled for you?

Send the username on WhatsApp or email. You hear whether it looks workable. See the refund policy on the pricing page.
