Five options, safest first
- Try the name in your settings. If it is accepted, it is yours.
- Change back to your own previous name where the platform allows it.
- File the report that fits: impersonation, intellectual property or a rule breach.
- Ask a service for a route check if you cannot tell which route fits.
- Never pay a stranger for a username.
Checking is free and takes seconds
See taken, inactive or available for how to check on each platform.
Your own history is the strongest free route
Instagram says you can usually change back to a previous username. TikTok says a username you give up cannot be added to an account for a short period.
A report needs a right or a rule
An impersonating account, a registered mark or a rule breach. Others do not qualify.
A service saves effort, not odds
Usernm checks the route and submits the claim. The platform still decides, and a failed username claim is refunded in full.
