Three options for three situations
| Question | Username change | New account | Username claim |
|---|---|---|---|
| When it fits | The name is free | You can start fresh | Another account holds the name and a route fits |
| Keeps followers | Yes | No | Yes, if it goes to your account |
| Cost | None | None | A price agreed first if you use Usernm |
| Who decides | You, if the name is free | You, if the name is free | The platform |
| Limits | Snapchat once every 12 months, TikTok once every 30 days | None stated | Needs a route |
Change first if the name is free
Try the name in your settings. If it is accepted, no claim is needed.
A new account is a reset
It costs nothing but loses followers and history. It also has to use a free name.
A claim is the last step, not the first
Use it when another account holds the name and your facts match a route. See which usernames can be claimed.
A claim still ends in a change
If a claim succeeds, you then change your own username to the name. On Snapchat that uses your yearly change.
